Top 10 Modern Life Survival Skills According to Lifehacker
Lifehacker put together a nice list of Top 10 Modern Life Survival Skills. They are:
- Pick a lock.
- Use your head to amplify your car alarm remote’s signal.
- Know your direction without a compass.
- Predict the weather (without a forecast).
- Read body language to tell if someone’s lying.
- Boost your night vision.
- Recover from a late night.
- Tell time without a watch.
- Get into and out of tricky conversations.
- De-fuzz your sweater or coat at the last minute.
Of course, de-fuzzing your sweater won’t be all that useful in a post apocalyptic situation, but several of these skill may come in handy. Plus they are things you can practice now.

With cell phones having the Apps they have I really wonder if any of these are really needed in a modern survival context. Most people get into trouble by simply not respecting nature. Last week or the week before there was a article about a couple of Europeans who (I think that where from Norway or Germany) set out across the Mohave Desert took a turn there car got stuck and they died of heat of exhaustion. Having water and an ability to read the signs saying’s 4X4 only could have prevented what happned.
In an PA context an ability to make a fire and find food would be my top two.
