If you have not seen the video on devour dot COM, I would highly recommend it the long hair guy is a little annoying, the other guys makes sense.
I have a number of issues with projects like this and as 2012 gets closer and the world gets crazier trust me you’ll see more. The first is if you’re on the bottom floor how do you get out? Two any SHTF situation is more then likely going to come right out of the blue and nobody will see it coming, if you are lucky and pretty perceptive you might have a couple of days to get there. Most wont because you will have to fight with wife’s parents, grand parents, siblings and kids just to get started. Most people don’t see a problem until the monster is kicking down the door trying to eat them, by this time everybody has seen it.
This Bunker is in Kansas I’ve seen these places they are out in the boonies and you’re not going to just catch a jet and take a taxi to get there. It’s going to be a multi hour drive from a major city, or a mid size one to get there. In the middle of a melt down (You pick) just get getting out of a major city will be pretty problematic let along flying out of one. You might be able to get away with a multi hour drive though the wilds of Kansas, how long gas hold out will be a matter of luck.
My thinking is unless you are willing to live with in one-hour minimum drive of your SHTF bunker use that money to build something closer to home.
